Aqualash’s Ghostly search for America

Aqualash is a fairly new band with a very refined take on the 90’s Trip Hop movement. Bands like Goldfrapp and Portishead come to mind as the chilled vocals and decaying beats ooze out of the speakers. Aqualash also offer something very modern in their recordings, and I feel this is best epitomized in their song “America” – filled with a strange and ghostly yearning to be living in a country where opportunity abounds. I think the American dream is being used here as a wide and majestic canvas for this talented group to play with, and is not to be taken to completely literally. Though it can serve as  an anthemic ballad to our great united nation, there is a biting sense of hypocrisy in the haunting pace and even the vocal delivery seems to underline the true meaning…  searching for a greater truth outside yourself is the wrong way to go about it.
